It's also good to manage your reputation online, one simple step is to Google your brand, product, or service.

Also, probably the most important thing you can do to protect your reputation on any search engine is to open as many social networking account under your business name as possible:

1. facebook
2. myspace
3. linkedin
3. youtube
4. twitter
5. google profile

This is perhaps the best reading I had stumbles regarding PR for small businesses. I totally agree that it pays to have a good reputation to be able to grow even a small business. Thanks for sharing!

Press releases are also a fanstatic way to help boost your rankings in the search engines. If you submit them to online newswires they'll generate high quality links back to your site.

Secondly, if you upload the press release to your 'News' page, it becomes a way of adding new, unique, fresh content to your site - which Google and the other search engines love!

It all helps to build the trust level in your website and will ultimately help you see better rankings in the search engine results.

Good advice. Thanks also for the reply to my last comment; it's always great to find a site where the webmasters take part in the discussion. We've actually just sent out our first press release a few weeks back; nothing big, just letting the local media know about the free community wireless network we've built. It generated quite a bit of buzz, with one of my business partners being interviewed by several different outlets. It even generated some calls from other local businesses wondering if they could advertise on it. A very nice side effect. =)
