#9982 | Adventure published on January 29, 2010 in English
Ryan's guide slapped his shoulder. He had a ridiculous grin on his chubby face. "Little buddy, you haven't lived until you've surfed the Corona." Ryan gave his guide a look of disgust. He slowly and deliberately brushed the dirt off his white track suit. The man had sang the praises of this Corona for the last hour. "I couldn't care less," he said. "Just get me there." the strong smell of sulfur invaded Ryan's nose. His eyes were beginning to water and itch. For the upteenth time, the stockbrocker mentally cursed his best friend, Chris. If only he hadn't agreed to visit that damned antique shop. He should have bought some shiny ring for his wife. But he had foolishly hoped to find something exotic enough to stifle her righteous anger. But it seemed that bad luck had an arrow with Ryan's name on it. "Little buddy? Hey, snap out of it!" Ryan's guide had replaced the grin with a frown. His beefy, brown arms were folded across an equally muscular chest. Ryan mopped the sweat off his forehead. He cringed to see the dark sweat stain on the soft material. "Damn heat," he muttered. His guide wasn't even breaking a sweat. "Come on, little buddy. We have to make it to the Corona by nightfall." The guide had been insistent about making good time. He seemed to be anxious about whatever happened after the sun set. Ryan gritted his teeth, "If you call me little buddy one more time. So help me god, I'll twist you into a pretzel." The guide only smiled...

#9937 | Adventure published on January 25, 2010 in English
Nothing stirred that was not rooted in earth. The dried grass with their familiar rustle stirred only when prodded by the hot winds pushing down from the barren hills. His eyes squinted through the watery movements of the heat waves, at a far off tree with few leaves and none green. One limb bent lazily by the wind, gave no indication that any animal inhabited its branches. Its as if the heat had sucked up the life of anything that ran on blood. To his eyes, nothing disturbed the natural fauna of the shallow valley. No smells, no sound, no movement hinted at the presence of food. His eyes keen and intense swept the savannah. No sign of an easy meal. There rarely was. Eyes moved to the rift over the next valley and revealed the same emptiness. Survival had always been a full time job for him, but now that the prey was gone. His survival was in peril. His tongue hung heavy and dry; swallowing came with difficulty. Even the flies that claimed stake to his face with its usual feast of dried food and saliva were mysteriously gone. He would go down to the dried up stream bed and like yesterday; scratch up the baked earth to see if the water seeped up to him. A step on one of ‘those’ stones, reminded him that his feet still pained from yesterdays digging. A volcano had erupted two months ago three valleys over leaving the savannah barren. Few creatures survived or stayed...

“Mother has just had a heart failure” I froze. My heart stopped pounding in her chest. I felt a wave panic, worry, and many other emotions that probably weren’t classified by human science. I was the oldest, my mother had given birth to me at the age of 23, and now 40 years old having heart failure? Is she okay? What happened? How did it happen? I had so many questions, but I finally settled on one. “ I..wh..is she alright?” I braced for the dreaded words, hoping they would not roll off my sister’s lips. I, nor my sister or father, wanted the pain and agony that came with death. “No.

I looked up at the fireworks. The nights sky was filled colorful lights, lights that danced and spoke. The red, the blue, the green and the gold the vivid image of the most simple things, putting me in another state. There was a BAM, a BOOST and a BLAST! I jumped a little at the loud noises, but I was still fasinated but the different patterns in the sky. It was like dragons flying around in the sky, almost like the were having a ball. I wondered how it would to fly above the world and to be looked at in fasination. Just then I closed my eyes and pictured it and when I opened my eyes I was a dragon. A dragon dancing with the others. I was flying through the clouds letting the wind flow across my body. Soaring with my new friends above everyone. I looked down to notice to beautiful China was. We were flying over the ocean and I dove toward to the deep blue hurdling to my near death I pulled up touching the water with my claws. I seen my reflection in the water and noticed that I wasn't a dragon, I was still the same child. Just then I flew higher, and higher into the sky pass all the clouds, away from the dragons that were with me I flew higher until; I stopped and fell. I made myself fall diving into the water I felt open and free. Right when the calming waves hit me I woke up. All of it was a dream? But it felt so real, I couldn't believe it. Just then I noticed a note that was folded, so I opened it and read it, and I smiled...

There I was running gasping for air. Yelling for help, no one anwsered. It was dark outside and only the street lights were my source of light. I couldn't see what up ahead and I didn't look back to see what or who was chasing me. All I could think of was get out of here, make it home, make it somewhere safe. I kept running my lungs burning I wouldn't stop, no I couldn't stop. I didnt know what to do, I didn't even know what was chasing me. So as I kept running I wanted to see what I was running from; the thing that was chasing me in the darkness. I turned my head to take a little look to see the horrid face of the twisted creature chasing me. That was a mistake, as I looked back see I seen a figure chasing me, holding a huge knife, and as I turned around to face the other way again I hit a pole. Smash! My face hit the metal that was in front of me and I blacked out. I woke up with a cut across my forehead and my lip was busted. When I opened my eyes I seen a bright light in my face, a blinding light. I tryed to move, but I noticed that I was tied down, so I tilted my head up to see who this person was. I looked at the figure, my eyes adjusting to the light, I seen a doctor? Or at least I thought it was a doctor. Just then I felt a pain in my chest and as I looked down I became disgusted. I seen my chest split open and my heart gone; but wait thats impossible I'm still alive! Then I noticed there was a body beside me, lifeless lying there, woth no heart also...
